Are there any requirements to join? Please check our requirements here. We ask that you've played your instrument(s) for at least 3 years and can perform a solo piece. If necessary, the coordinator may be able to set you up with a group ensemble. Please note that many Magic of Music musicians have a private teacher. Also, musicians are expected to perform at least twice a month. See more on performances in other questions.

Why should I join Magic of Music? Many reasons! It's a great way to give back to the community and know you're making an impact. In addition, it's rewarding to spread joy to people through both music and our post-performance chats. We love to chat with the residents to understand their stories and further our connections with them! The community of musicians is really friendly, so you can get to know new people and have a lot of fun together. It's also a spectacular way to build confidence in your performing and musical skills! We welcome you to audition and hope you can join us!

If I'm in charge of an ensemble, can everyone join Magic of Music?Magic of Music would love to have each and every one of you! If you wish to perform as an ensemble, only the person in charge needs to go through the audition process: fill out the interest form, send in a recording of a piece you are currently working on to magicofmusic.organization@gmail.com, and email any questions, comments and concerns as well. However, if each ensemble player wants to perform solo, everyone should fill out the form individually. There is also a section in the form that asks if you are in any ensembles, which you can use to indicate you are together. We look forward to performing with you soon!

What if I don't play music?Mainly, we are looking for musicians who can share their music with the nursing homes. If you don't play music but would like to help Magic of Music, spreading the word is one simple but hugely beneficial way to help! Sharing our website, posting it on social media, and word of mouth, are all very appreciated. There are a few positions available for those who don't play music. For more information, click here. If you have an idea or two on how to help Magic of Music, let us know here!
-
How long is each performance? Each performance is about 40-45 minutes long. Musicians will introduce themselves, perform, and afterwards, chat with the residents, because our goal is to help them and connect with them during COVID-19.
-
How often do musicians perform?Usually, musicians perform once or twice per month, but do not worry if you can't make some of the performances! Magic of Music understands you have other obligations, as long as you are able to perform frequently. See the other question about performances for more information.
-
How flexible is performing? Is there a calendar for performances?Magic of Music performances are relatively flexible. The time(s) and date(s) you perform on depend on when you are available! There isn't an official calendar for performances, although there are certain days and times we consistently perform on.

Is there more solo playing or ensemble playing? Can the performer decide if they play solo or as part of a group?Musicians perform solo pieces during performances, but if they can't perform solo, the director may be able to set them up with an ensemble. Some musicians play chamber music (duets, trios, etc.) or ensemble playing (larger groups of instruments) as a fun project as well (check out past projects here!), so if you'd be interested in doing that, let us know!
